School nurses conduct state-recommended screenings as time allows. Recommended screenings include vision, hearing, blood pressure, scoliosis, and BMI (body mass index) screening for various age groups. If a parent has a concern, they may contact the school nurse and request their student be screened at any time during the school year.
Currently the state recommendations for screening elementary students are as follows:
Vision: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th
Hearing: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th
BMI: 5th grade
Students in 4th grade will be screened upon teacher or parent request.
In most cases, upcoming kindergarten students entering Lesslie Elementary School will have their vision and hearing screening during the summer.
For information regarding school screenings contact the school nurse.
